E-A-T what does it mean in terms of SEO?
A new acronym is starting to filter through the world of SEO – even though it’s been around for a few years. The new acronym E-A-T which means ‘expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness’ came about from the publication of Google’s Quality Evaluator Guidelines, a hefty 164 page PDF document created by thousands of human reviewers, known internally as ‘raters’ or ‘search quality evaluators’ the people who manually assess the quality of web content.
Currently, E-A-T works in tandem with another acronym YMYL (Your Money or Your Life). A typical website classed as YMYL is one that offers financial or medical advice. Let’s face it. Google can’t be seen to serve misleading or unreliable advice which could affect your finances or physical well-being.
You could be right in thinking this doesn’t affect me, my website doesn’t offer financial or medical products or services, and at this stage, you could be right in thinking that. As always in business, being proactive and keeping one step ahead of your competitors is the key to being successful.
Every business that engages in digital marketing especially SEO should be implementing in E-A-T into their SEO strategy as it will only be a matter of time before it affects all industries and sectors.
E-A-T is challenging, and in the coming weeks, I’ll be explaining how to build expertise, authority and trust and creating the signal that Google is now looking for as a ranking factor.
